In his Inaugural Address in 1789, George Washington stated, “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” Sadly, America has disregarded many of the principles of her founding and is paying a heavy price. Part of this responsibility lies with people of God who have distanced themselves from people of government and from the democratic process that made our republic the shining light on a hill. From the 2004 presidential election, to 2008 and then 2012, the total number of Christian conservatives that have turned out to vote has dropped off by an average of about ten million votes. The silence from God’s people has been deafening.

Awake America North Carolina exists to once again connect the people of God with people of government. In order to preserve our liberty and freedom, men of God must once again interject themselves into the arena of public debate over public policy. Lawmakers write laws that all of us must live under. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Proverbs 29:2

The time has come for the people of God to stand and engage our political system. America is worth it! The people of our state are worth it! We must be willing to come alongside our leaders and pray with them, as well as Encourage, Educate, and Engage them.
